This illustration aims to soften the mainstream narrative of dominance and aggression often linked to afros, overriding it with themes of self-acceptance and love. For better or for worse, mane is a word that shows up when describing black hair, especially when styled in an afro. The word can have connotations that suggest unkept, wild, and exotic — however when centered in love, it is embraced for its traits that project strength, maturity, and health. To further build the reclaimed narrative being told, the afro in the portrait is sprinkled with Queen Anne’s Lace, the delicate flower of European wild carrot. The flower is known for its resemblance to a bird's nest when it goes to seed and becomes the perfect symbol of sanctuary and home.

Posters can be hung with double-sided tape, tacks, or framed. If the poster gathers dust, you may wipe it off gently with a clean, dry cloth. Items do not come framed.
